What Is It?

Methylated B12

An Exceptional Vitamin B12 Supplement for Optimal Health.

Methylated B-12 is a comprehensive vitamin B12 and unique folic acid supplement for cardiovascular health as well as the musculo-skeletal and nervous system health. Our Quatrefolic® 6S-5-Methyltetrahydrofolic acid us the form of folic acid already converted by adding a methyl group to make it usable. Up to 20 % of humans are genetically very poor in their ability to convert normal every day folic acid to the 5-MTHF form we include in our supplement.

B Vitamins and Homocysteine Metabolism and Heart Health.

B vitamins play an intricate role in homocysteine metabolism. A combination of folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 are most often times used to help reduce homocysteine levels naturally. Folic acid is required for the conversion of homocysteine to methionine while vitamin B12 is a required co-factor in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine via the folate pathway. Vitamin B12 deficiency is also common in the elderly and vegetarians. B vitamins have also been used to help support energy production in the body. Many Americans supplement their diets with B vitamins to give them a "boost" throughout their day.

Homocysteine is an amino acid and is a normal intermediate in methionine metabolism in the body. When excess homocysteine is made and not converted into methionine it is excreted into the blood. Research suggests that high homocysteine levels can lead to cardiovascular health issues.

Why Take It?
  • Methylated B12 Folic acid and Nerve/Muscle/Tendon/Fascia Health.

We already discussed why to take it for your heart. Vitamin B12 also works along with folate in many other body processes, including increasing metabolic energy and red blood cell production, supporting mood regulation and cognitive function, up-regulating methylation, increasing DNA synthesis and repair, and supporting the formation of the protective myelin sheath, the insulating exterior that speeds up nerve cell transmission which is why it helps with neuropathy and carpal tunnel syndrome. We have found this form of Vitamin B12 also helpful in plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow where the fascia is tightened and shortened.

Most B12 supplements contain cyanocobalamin. In order for B12 to be utilized in the body, the liver must first remove the cyanide molecule and attach a methyl group to form methylcobalamin, the biologically active, tissue-ready form. Research has shown that methylcobalamin is more efficiently used and retained in the body than the cyanocobalamin form
